Robert O. Compton

September 2, 1919 - December 6, 2001
Bob passed away on December 6, 2001 at age 82 due to complications following open-heart bypass surgery. A true Seattle native, he was born in Seattle, grew up in the Green Lake area, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939, attended the University of Washington and ran a Lumberyard in the downtown Seattle area. He was active with the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity many years after his leaving the UW to serve in the Army-Air Corps between 1942 and 1945. As the Compton family was one of the early settlers of the Lake Sammamish area, he raised his family on Lake Sammamish and in 1988 he and his wife of 53 years, Patricia, moved to the Sammamish Plateau.
Bob was at the helm of the 110 year old, still family owned Compton Lumber Company for thirty-five of his forty-seven year career until his retirement in 1994. He was responsible for moving the business to its current location.
Bob was an avid gardener, and loved to snow ski. He would spend 3 hours driving to the Arizona Snow Bowl just to get in "a few runs" when he and Pat would winter in Sun City West, Arizona.
A beloved and devoted husband, friend, father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife Patricia, sons Stephen, David and Robert, daughters-in-law, Mary and Annajo, grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Ryan, Eric, Joseph, Matthew and Christopher in addition his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ethel, two brothers, Frank and George and sister Maggie.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to the American Heart Association.
